Naltrexone

Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist that blocks the euphoric effects of opioids, helping patients avoid relapse. Unlike buprenorphine, it is not a controlled substance and carries no risk of misuse.

Daily oral tablets for patients who prefer a daily regimen. Monthly injection (Vivitrol®) — a convenient extended-release formulation administered once per month. Sixty-day implant — provides two months of continuous protection against relapse.

Naltrexone is ideal for patients who have already completed detox and are opioid-free. It is most effective when combined with counseling and support programs.
